B&W 7.4.18

This is the last of the pictures that I took of the artwork outside Union Station.

This has really been more of an exercise in me being stubborn.... vs an exercise in good B&W photography.

Will decide before next week if it is to continue with some new shots.... or die a natural boredom driven death.

B&W 6.3.18

Lots of warm and/or stormy summer weather in the past week.

Here's one of the pictures that has been hanging out in my "imports" file.

A throwback to a snowy morning walk along the canal path.

Not that I am longing for that.... not at all, as I am a boy who likes his summer.

Even junior marchers (for gun control) need to squint into the bright Colorado sun.

B&W 5.1.18

Taken at Union Station.

On the day we took the light rail downtown.... to march for kids not guns.

From the display of artworks near the platform we use.

B&W 4.4.18

You've heard of the "Jimmy Legs".

These are the Gramps Legs.

Not really the same thing at all.

B&W 4.1.18

So far I think that I have figured out that.... old, dead and tangled, always make a good B&W picture.

Which is handy.... as there is lots of that around at this time of year.

B&W 3.4.18

The memorial to those who served on 104th Ave.

I think maybe scenes of war, are always best in B&W.

B&W 3.3.18

Now this seems like the kind of scene that should be shot in B&W.

Shot on the Big Dry Creek Trail in Westminster CO.... but invoking thoughts of the Old West.

B&W 3.2.18

My new camera, the ZS100, gives me the ability to shoot in B&W.... which is something that my Nikon does not do.

Oddly enough, this whole idea of B&W photography.... makes more sense and has more appeal, when I can shoot it that way vs convert it in post production.

Haven't quite figured out why yet, but when I pull the image into Lightroom.... it arrives as the B&W I shot but after a few seconds, converts itself to color.

So, I have to convert it in post production anyhow.... but again, somehow it all makes more sense.

From a walk to the gym on a cold and snowy day.... as I passed by Margaret’s Pond.

B&W 2.4.18

Fog or Sea Mist, as they call it in Panama City FL.... was our daily companion for this trip.

For the first couple of days it was the precursor to rain.

But by day 3 of our trip it was there each morning.... but burned off as the day progressed.

Once the rain left the area our habit was to spend a good chunk of the day walking the beach.

This then, was a familiar scene to us as there were piers in both directions from our hotel.

And I must confess, this is a pixture.... that better captures the mood in black & white.

B&W 2.3.18

Very much struggling (still) with the idea of liking B&W.

Here is a Lydia pixture from this week’s Panama City vacation.

We weren’t w/out sunny days and this was one of them....

Sitting by the pool bar w/ highlights, from the sun, in her hair.... and an overall warm glow to the day.

But when converted to B&W.... all of that is gone.

Very close to abandoning this for a new theme.

B&W 2.2.18

Turns out that when you take.... just the right pixture.

On just the right kind of day.

At just the right time of year.

There is almost no difference.... between color and B&W.

B&W 1.4.18

I have an inadvertent theme going here with my Black & White project.... people.

At least at this point, the idea of pixtures in B&W makes more sense to me if they are of people.

This particular one didn't really require I whole bunch of conversion.

The original was shot in a blizzard.

B&W 1.3.18

I have heard it said that shooting in B&W will make you a better photographer.

Because it will cause you to pay more attention to the quality of your subject.

This is a pixture that I took on our vacation to South Carolina, last year.... and then forgot about.

I found it again today, while organizing for an upcoming electronic version of a Family Album.

In color there is a nice sunset sky behind Lydia.... but in B&W it is very striking, even without that.

But I am of course a little a lot biased when it comes to this subject.

B&W 1.2.18

This one I shot to update the "photo screen" that we have in our dining room.

This girl has grown up a lot and needed a new pixture in the family gallery.

The screen got a color version.... which I converted to add to this year's Pixture of the Week project.

In order to get the same overall feel as the color version.... I felt like I needed to change a couple of adjustments.

Bump the exposure up a couple of notches.... and add back a couple of steps of Highlights that I had taken out in the color version (due to strong side light from a window).

B&W 1.1.18

So the decision is made.... the pixture of the week for 2018 is going to be Black & White.

This is my first offering.

Mostly about testing the conversion process.... vs picking a cool subject.

Turned out ok.... considering that it is an iPhone shot and not from the "big camera".
